Man on a motorcycle on dirt road at golden hour

“The organs are the horses, the mind is the rein, the intellect is the charioteer, the soul is the rider, and the body is the chariot.”

-Swami Vivekananda

The Chariot is card number 7 in the Tarot’s Major Arcana. In numerology, the number 7 is associated with spirituality, mystery, curiosity, and introspection. The number 7 has especially strong ties with myth and storytelling, being a number that tends to take us on great quests for deeper truths. This number has the vibration of being both analytical as well as intuitive to gather and access hidden information.

Taking the reins and leading the way with willpower and determination is The Chariot. This driving force of a card is about overcoming challenges, utilizing the divine feminine and divine masculine sides of the self in balance and harmony. Through confidence, focus, and the ability to navigate the bumps in the road with stride, is what allows the driver to emerge victorious. Recognizing it’s not always going to be smooth sailing or an easy path allows for consideration and planning, making the drivers’ determination, willpower, and perseverance necessary. Being mindful of how you move through the world does wonders in helping guide you through a turbulent journey full of winding turns and detours.

  • General Meaning- Movement, victory, willpower, determination, focus, ambition, & success

  • When Out of Alignment- Lack of direction, forceful, aggressive, powerless, out of control, & obstacles blocking the way

Navigating The Chariots archetypal energy-

When The Chariot comes up in a reading, it’s calling you to reflect on how you move through the world. Consider your divine masculine self (taking action, doing, and business) and your divine feminine self (intuitive, nurturing, slowing down), and how they’re working together. In our society, it is common for the divine masculine self to take the reins, leading us to be always on the go and doing, sometimes leading to being perpetually busy for the sake of being busy. We would do much better to incorporate the divine feminine self, slowing down to reflect and listen to the inner voice of intuition for the best intentional movement forward. Through the rhythm of listening and taking aligned action, you’ll really be cooking with gas and find yourself victorious with your dreams and goals! However, if you’re unable to take time to slow down to listen and reflect, you may find yourself sick and forced to do so on your own terms. And likewise, if you’re unable to step into your confidence and take action, you may be thrown out of your comfort zone. It’s always best to take this card as a chance to reflect and move with intention!

In this card, we see our focused Charioteer on a motorcycle channeling the Greek God Apollo with the sun at his back. We can see crescent moons on the Charioteer’s shoulders symbolizing his spiritual side and connection to his intuition. With wings on his boots showing his swiftness and ability to move with purpose and intent through the world. With a symbol for inspiration on the front of his bike, we know this driver is going places. The light and dark contrast in this card is also important to take note of, showing the need for the light and shadow self, conscious and subconscious, to work together for things to go smoothly on the journey ahead.

Next up, connecting with the compassion and lessons of inner Strength. Stay tuned for the next card release in The Green Mountain Major Arcana’s journey next Friday, 6/13!
