The High Priestess is card number 2 in the Tarot’s Major Arcana. In numerology, 2 is the number of symmetry, balance, and duality, acting as the peacemaker between opposing forces of light and dark. With the ability to act as a mediator and balancing power, this energy doesn’t have a preference for either side and can instead see the bigger picture.
The High Priestess is the divine feminine guardian of the subconscious mind and teacher of sacred knowledge and hidden mysteries. She sits at the threshold of the conscious and subconscious mind with the ability to travel effortlessly between the two, teaching us the world is not always as it seems, and there are more profound influences at play than may meet the eye. The High Priestess offers a deeper, intuitive understanding of the divine through a heightened awareness of secret or hidden information. This card signifies spiritual enlightenment, inner illumination, divine knowledge, and wisdom, showing up in a reading when you have the opportunity to access this knowledge deep within your soul.

Navigating The High Priestess’s archetypal energy:
Through the use of signs, symbols, and synchronicities, we’re able to receive messages from our spiritual team of higher-ups (guides / higher self/ ancestors / the divine / etc.) who are always communicating with us. We need to take the time to slow down and pay attention. Allowing yourself daily time to be soft, peaceful, and relaxed provides the space to become open and receptive to this higher frequency energy. When invited, The High Priestess is more than happy to light the path and guide us when we’re ready by gently lifting the veil of reality as we know it, showing us we’re each divinity asleep while playing a character here for soul growth and development. From this understanding and new perspective, this archetype lets you in on the secret that there’s so much more to life than surface value leads you to believe, things are never only black and white, and there are no coincidences. The more intention we put into our daily lives to make magic out of the mundane, the more we step onto the path of The High Priestess, recognizing every moment is a chance to engage with the sacred.
In this card, we see The High Priestess standing in a lake between two mountains acting as pillars of duality and balance around her as she channels the divine, thriving in the elements around her. Wearing blue with a white crescent moon above her head shows her ability to make this connection, along with the moon phases at the top of the card. It’s a stormy day with a moody sky overhead and the wind’s energy showing itself in the water. However, The High Priestess remains at peace in this raw energy state and appears to thrive in it, showing her relationship with her shadow side, which gives her the ability to work with the divine. By learning how to stand and navigate this powerful liminal energy, she’s able to help and teach others to do the same - how to make these connections on their own, and how to listen and trust what they receive. These skills will guide them forward on a path all their own.
