10 | The Wheel of Fortune
“To everything, turn, turn, turn
There is a season, turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven.”
-The Bryds, Turn! Turn! Turn!
The Wheel of Fortune is card number 10 in the Tarot’s Major Arcana. In numerology, the number 10 signifies new beginnings, independence, and wholeness. We can also perceive 10 as 1 + 0 = 1, bringing us full circle. Seeing the connection between 10 and 1, it’s important to recognize they share many vibrational meanings, including infinite potential, confidence, and opportunity.
When the Wheel of Fortune comes up, know greater forces are at play, connecting all things, and making a need to stop and pay attention to the winds of change blowing your way. So step right up and try your luck, with the hope of Lady Luck being on your side as you spin the wheel to determine your fate. Just remember, whether you find yourself at the top or bottom, no matter the outcome, it may not last long, for the wheel’s always turning. No matter one’s status, The Wheel treats all the same when it is their time to spin and see what lies ahead.
General Meaning - Change, cycles, karma, destiny, growth, adaptability, decisive moments, luck, & fortune.
When out of Alignment - Bad luck, clinging to control, unwelcome changes, delays, and setbacks.
Navigating The Wheel of Fortune’s archetypal energy-
The Wheel of Fortune isn’t truly a spiritual lesson about luck or punishment; it’s about encouraging being open to change or new possibilities within the ebb and flow of life. While it’s easy to be resistant to the unknown and unpredictable, there’s a bigger plan for each of our journeys on this path than we could ever fully imagine. Making a need for life to continually push us out of our comfort zones, which can sometimes feel like bad luck, putting us in victim mode. This discomfort is, in reality, an energetic push for something necessary for our growth and development for our souls that we’re not recognizing. Becoming complacent in a routine and seeing life with blinders on limits our ability to view the bigger picture. And while it often feels more comfortable than being challenged or having things not go our way, it’s an intentional push. Whether it feels like life is in your favor or working against you, change is a sure thing, and knowing things won’t stay the same for long can be helpful to shift perspective and find acceptance in the dance of life. Allow time and space for reflection in order to better accept the change, and remember to embrace the opportunities coming your way, which will allow for a much more favorable transition.
In this card, we see the Wheel of Fortune shown as the wheel of the year, set in the vibrant changing season of autumn, signifying the importance of letting go and allowing necessary change to take its course. On the four corners of the card, we have the astrological zodiac symbols for: Aquarius, Scorpio, Leo, & Taurus. The four triangles in the circle represent the alchemy symbols for the elements: air, water, fire, & earth. These symbols symbolize the different aspects of seasons, the importance of working with the energy and its elemental state, and the interconnectedness of life. There’s no control to be had with the wheel, and learning to work within its flow and cycle will always lead to more favorable results.
